The teacher, not the mother.
The mother of Ushi seems to have been the woman with Ushi's father when he is hurt in episode 2.
However when he is interviewed in episode 7 the woman with him, visibly different, might be assumed to be his mother. This is actually the teacher of he and Ichi though.
